I bought over the hill expecting something like PEAK, but with cars. Instead, I found one of the most beautiful off-road games I've played… and somehow got bored.
The gorgeous landscapes, relaxing music, dynamic weather, and detailed world make an incredible first impression. But what happens when there's almost no challenge, very little risk, and no clear destination?
In this video, I share my experience with over the hill, explain what I loved, what disappointed me, and why I eventually requested a refund on Steam.
I also compare the experience to MudRunner, SnowRunner, and RV There Yet?
Is over the hill a great relaxing driving game, or does it need more meaningful challenges?
Let me know what you think!

Over the Hill looks incredible, but is it actually fun? I put this relaxing driving game to the test to see if it holds up.
I bought this title expecting a challenging experience similar to other off-road games where route planning and survival are key. The landscapes are detailed, the weather effects are impressive, and the atmosphere is genuinely peaceful. However, after spending time behind the wheel, I found that the lack of risk or meaningful objectives made the experience feel empty rather than engaging.
My critique focuses on the fundamentals of game design and why visual fidelity cannot carry a project alone. I compare the mechanics here to other titles in the genre to explain why I ultimately requested a refund. If you appreciate an honest indie game review that breaks down what makes a simulation satisfying, this analysis covers exactly where this game missed the mark.
