To Be A Sent One - Luke 10:1-24

What does it mean to be a sent one of God? In Luke 10 we see an incredible event take place. After sending out the 12 in the previous chapter, Jesus is now sending out 70 more people. He sends them to go to all the places He Himself is about to go to. He sends them out to heal the sick and let them know that the Kingdom of God has come near. You might think that prior to sending them He would give them an encouraging speech, but much of Luke 10:1-16 is a warning that people will reject them. Jesus reminds them that it is entirely possible for people to experience the power of God, listen to the gospel of the Kingdom, stand in Christ's presence, and still, they will reject His gospel. He says He's sending out the 70 as lambs among wolves, not an easy task. Yet, when they return, they return in amazing joy. Even Christ rejoices in the spirit at their testimony. However, in their victorious testimony of miracles, power and deliverance, Jesus reminds them not to rejoice in that but rather to rejoice that their names are written in heaven.
