How a Young Actor Set the Standard for Every Joker After Him

Heath Ledger died six months before The Dark Knight ever reached theaters. He never saw the reviews, the reaction, or the Oscar his performance would eventually win. Before any of that, almost nobody believed he could pull the role off. Fans openly questioned the casting. Even inside the studio, there was doubt. So Ledger disappeared for a month, alone in a hotel room, building a character from scratch, a notebook full of ideas, a voice tested over and over, a look created by hand rather than handed to him. This is the story of how that performance came together, the choices most viewers never notice, the scenes that convinced the skeptics, and what happened after he was gone. Heath Ledger never got to see what his Joker became. Everyone who's watched this movie since has. 00:00 Intro 00:28 The Doubt 01:20 Building the Character 04:05 The Transformation 05:20 The Scenes 08:18 The Legacy If you're into untold Hollywood stories like this one, stories behind the movies and performances everyone recognizes but doesn't fully know, more of these are coming soon. #HeathLedger #Joker #TheDarkKnight #Hollywood
