I spent some time at Boribo Farm House in Takaungu, Kilifi, and in this video, I take you inside the house, around the farm and into the ideas behind this unique place. Located about 10–15 minutes from the beach, Boribo feels completely removed from the usual coastal crowds. The property is surrounded by trees, open spaces and nature, with a beautiful house designed to make the outdoors part of the living experience. The house has an open-plan living area, bedrooms, kitchen, swimming pool, outdoor spaces, a playground and swing, and one of the most interesting features, an open-sky shower. There are very few barriers between you and the environment around you, which makes the whole stay feel connected to nature. But the house is only one part of the story. Boribo is off-grid, using solar power rather than relying entirely on the conventional electricity system. The swimming pool is maintained without chlorine, and the property uses compost toilets, where waste is processed and returned to the soil as part of the farm’s circular approach. Around the farm, there is also a food forest, with different plants and crops being grown, alongside practices such as biochar and charcoal production. I also got to learn more about the thinking behind the farm and the person who envisioned it. We talk about sustainability, farming, creating spaces where people can reconnect with nature, and rethinking the traditional idea of work and how we use the resources around us. And then there’s the food. 🌱 Because this is a working farm, the experience can also include fresh, home-cooked meals, bringing together the farm, the kitchen and the table.
