When Rings of Power killed Celebrimbor, a lot of people said the show did it by the book. For instance, the arrows are there, the torture is there, and the body lifted up on a pole is there too. The thing is, they're right about every detail and wrong about the one that matters most, which is when he dies.
In Tolkien, Celebrimbor is still alive when Sauron forges the One Ring. He hears it from far away, he hides the Three, and he has close to a hundred years before Eregion falls. In the show he's dead before the Ring even exists, and if you think about it, that's the strangest part, because one of the last things he does is tell Sauron that one ring alone will be his ruin.
So this video goes through both deaths side by side, from the Appendix B dates to the letters where Tolkien explains what Sauron actually offered the smiths of Eregion. What's funny is that the famous banner scene isn't really Tolkien's prose at all, it's Christopher retelling a rough outline in Unfinished Tales. In other words, the show built its biggest Celebrimbor moment on a sketch, and then moved it a century earlier.
Then season three. Sauron is in Mordor trying to make the One Ring without the one person who knew how. And you can see where that leaves him, because every ring on the board, the Nine, the Seven and the Three, is the work of a man who's already gone.

I don't know which death works better for the story, the one in the book or the one in the show, so tell me in the comments. And if you like this kind of digging into what the show took from Tolkien and what it changed, subscribing is the easiest way to catch the next one.
