London, 1911. Ten million British women have no vote. On the night of the national census, suffragette Emily Wilding Davison secretly enters the Palace of Westminster and hides inside a tiny broom cupboard. Her purpose is simple but radical: when the country asks where she spent Census Night, her answer will be the House of Commons. The Cupboard Beneath the Crown is an AI cinematic short film inspired by the true story of one of the most courageous figures in the British suffrage movement. Through imprisonment, force-feeding, protest and resistance, the film explores Emily’s determination to make women visible in a society that denied them a political voice. Her night hidden beneath Parliament becomes a powerful act of defiance — a refusal to be erased from the public record. Two years later, Emily would suffer fatal injuries at the 1913 Epsom Derby. But the movement continued. In 1918, some British women gained the vote; equal voting rights with men followed in 1928.
