On March 21st, 2021, a private jet from Moscow landed in Sion, Switzerland, carrying a man and his family on their way to a ski holiday. Swiss police were waiting on the runway. This wasn't a random arrest. US prosecutors say a group of hackers had spent years reading companies' earnings reports before Wall Street did.
At the heart of it was Vladislav Klyushin, owner of the Moscow IT firm M-13, which had Kremlin contracts. Prosecutors said his group broke into the filing agents that handle earnings reports for Tesla, Snap, Microsoft and hundreds of others, then traded on them for around $93,000,000. A Boston jury convicted him in 2023. But the story didn't end at his conviction.
