God Names the Cowards First | Revelation 21:8

There are eight kinds of people named in Revelation 21:8, and they are not in a random order. Most men assume the murderer heads that list. He does not. He is fourth. "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers..." The first name on the roll of the damned is the man who was afraid. Not the man who did something monstrous -- the man who did nothing at all. This is a slow walk through why that ordering is exactly right: what God did with frightened men before a battle and why the reason He gave was contagion, the rare Greek word underneath "the fearful" and the two times Jesus used it on His own disciples, and the day a pillar apostle got up from a table because he was afraid of what a few visitors would think. And then the cure, which is not what most men reach for. Scripture never tells a frightened man to stop being frightened.
