🙏 රුවන්වැලි මහා සෑයේ ඉතිහාසය රුවන්වැලි මහා සෑය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ අනුරාධපුර පූජනීය නගරයේ පිහිටි ඉතා වැදගත් බෞද්ධ සිද්ධස්ථානයකි. එය අනුරාධපුරයේ අටමස්ථාන අතරින් එක් පූජනීය ස්ථානයක් වන අතර, පුරාණ ග්‍රන්ථවල මහාථූපය, රත්නමාලි, ස්වර්ණමාලි සහ රුවන්වැලි යන නම්වලින්ද හඳුන්වා ඇත. රුවන්වැලි මහා සෑයේ ඉදිකිරීම ආරම්භ කළේ දෙවන සියවසේ ක්‍රි.පූ. රජ කළ දුටුගැමුණු මහ රජතුමා විසිනි. මහා වංශයේ එය “මහාථූපය” ලෙස සඳහන් වේ. බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේගේ ධාතූන් වහන්සේලා තැන්පත් කිරීම සඳහා මෙම මහා සෑය ඉදිකරන ලදී. ඉදිකිරීම් සඳහා රට පුරා ජනතාවගේ සහය ලබාගත් බව පුරාණ වංශකථා සඳහන් කරයි. ගල්, ගඩොල්, ලෝහ සහ විවිධ වටිනා ද්‍රව්‍ය භාවිත කරමින් දැවැන්ත මහා සෑයක් නිර්මාණය කරන ලදී. දුටුගැමුණු රජතුමාගේ ජීවිත කාලය තුළ සෑයේ වැඩ සම්පූර්ණ කිරීමට නොහැකි වූ අතර, ඔහුගේ සහෝදරයා වූ සද්ධාතිස්ස රජතුමා ඉතිරි ඉදිකිරීම් සම්පූර්ණ කළ බව ශ්‍රී ලංකා සංචාරක තොරතුරු සඳහන් කරයි. කාලයත් සමඟ රුවන්වැලි මහා සෑය විවිධ රජවරුන් විසින් ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණය කර රැකබලා ගන්නා ලදී. පසුකාලීනව විනාශයට පත්ව තිබූ සෑය 19වන සියවසේ මැද භාගයේ සිට නැවත ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණය කර, 1944දී ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණ කටයුතු අවසන් කර ඇත. අද රුවන්වැලි මහා සෑය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ බෞද්ධ උරුමයේ අතිශය වැදගත් සංකේතයක් වන අතර, ලොව පුරා බෞද්ධයන්ගේ ගෞරවයට හා වන්දනාවට පාත්‍ර වන පූජනීය ස්ථානයකි. 🙏🇱🇰 ⸻ History of Ruwanweli Maha Seya Ruwanweli Maha Seya, also known as the Ruwanwelisaya, is one of the most sacred and historically important Buddhist monuments in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. It is one of the Eight Sacred Places (Atamasthana) of ancient Anuradhapura and is also known by names such as Mahathupa, Ratnamali and Swarnamali. The construction of the great stupa was begun by King Dutugemunu in the 2nd century BCE. Ancient chronicles, particularly the Mahavamsa, refer to it as the Mahathupa, meaning the Great Stupa. It was built as a sacred monument to enshrine the relics of the Buddha. According to ancient accounts, people from many parts of the kingdom participated in the construction. Large quantities of stone, bricks, metals and other valuable materials were used to create this magnificent monument. King Dutugemunu was unable to see the entire project completed during his lifetime. Historical accounts state that his brother and successor, King Saddhatissa, completed the remaining work. Over the centuries, successive kings carried out renovations and additions to the stupa and its surrounding religious complex. After centuries of decline, restoration work began in the mid-19th century, and the major reconstruction was completed in 1944. Today, Ruwanweli Maha Seya stands as one of the greatest symbols of Sri Lanka’s Buddhist heritage.
