0 Wins in Wuhan: Can Alex Eala Finally Break Her Biggest Curse?

The Wuhan Open—the final WTA 1000 event of the season—is witnessing a historic wave of withdrawals, with 10 major names including Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, and Amanda Anisimova exiting the tournament. For World No. 18 Alex Eala, this looks like the luckiest break of her career: a potential top-eight seeding, a first-round bye, and a crucial extra day of rest after playing a tour-high 58 matches this season. However, this wide-open draw hides a dangerous reality: • The Wuhan Curse: Alex Eala has never won a main draw match at the Wuhan Open in her entire career. • The 2026 Paradox: Statistical breakdowns show Eala thrives as the underdog against Top 10 champions (like Swiatek and Pegula), but struggles immensely when protecting a lead against lower-ranked players. Her two worst losses this year came against players outside the Top 100 after she won the opening set. • The Ultimate Mental Test: With 10 top stars gone, Eala will be surrounded by lower-ranked opponents moving up. Her biggest challenge in Wuhan isn't beating a Grand Slam champion; it's proving she can hold her nerve and protect her standing when the pressure is entirely on her shoulders. • 00:00 - The historic withdrawal wave: Rybakina, Gauff, and Anisimova exit • 00:44 - The unsolved mystery: Alex Eala's 0-0 main draw record in Wuhan • 01:52 - The 56-player draw explained and the priceless Top 8 bye • 05:36 - The brutal 58-match workload and the value of a free day of rest • 07:20 - The 2026 paradox: Dominating the Top 10 vs. collapsing against the Top 100+ • 09:20 - Hunter vs. Hunted: Why an "easy" draw is her biggest weakness • 12:28 - The gap between Top 20 and Top 10: Winning the ordinary matches • 13:00 - The ultimate psychological test: Golden opportunity or the biggest trap? #AlexEala #WuhanOpen #WTA1000 #PhilippineTennis #TennisAnalysis #EalaMania #LabanAlex #TennisStats #TeamPilipinas #WTA
