Egypt just pulled a brand-new portrait of a lost Wonder of the World out of the sea. Divers in Alexandria's Eastern Harbor found a bronze seal ring engraved with the Pharos of Alexandria — the first depiction of the great lighthouse ever found on a ring. In October 2026, Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced the find: a joint mission from the European Institute of Underwater Archaeology and Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities recovered the ring from the submerged island of Antirhodos, the drowned royal quarter of ancient Alexandria. The engraved lighthouse matches depictions on second-century Roman coins — and it may prove the palace housed the offices that ran the lighthouse itself. This is the story of the Pharos — the tower built around 280 BC that guided ships for over a thousand years, the earthquakes that dragged it down, and the tiny bronze ring that just rewrote part of its history.
