For 23 Years I Thought This Was Temporary

For twenty-three years I kept thinking the pain was temporary. I never really thought of myself as someone living with chronic pain. I just kept assuming that after the next surgery, the next treatment, or the next good night’s sleep, things would go back to normal. Looking back, I realized I’d spent more than two decades waiting for something that never quite arrived. This is a walk through that realization, what it’s like to live in a body that keeps changing, and why slow walks with my dog have become one of the ways I find balance.
