In 1937, the city of Rotterdam commissioned Von Bàrsy to create a new promotional film. This became Tusschen aankomst en vertrek (Between arrival and departure), and was a new kind of avant-garde “city symphony”. The film follows the same pattern seen in De stad, die nooit rust: once again we see a ship sailing along the Nieuwe Waterweg and docking at the port. This is followed by the unloading of the ship, and the other activities in the port. Without any dialogue and with a great emphasis on the dynamics of the port, an image is painted of the great diversity of activities that take place in the port: the unloading and storing of products, inland waterways, refineries, and shipyards. On several occasions, old footage from De stad, die nooit rust is used. Promotiefilm voor de Rotterdamse haven. In 1937 kreeg Von Bàrsy van de gemeente Rotterdam de opdracht een nieuwe promotiefilm te maken. Het werd Tusschen aankomst en vertrek, een nieuwe avant-gardistische 'stadssymfonie'. De film volgt het patroon van De stad, die nooit rust: wederom zien we een schip de Nieuwe Waterweg opvaren en aanleggen in de haven. Daarna wordt het lossen van het schip getoond en de andere werkzaamheden in de haven. Zonder dialoog en met veel nadruk op de dynamiek van de haven wordt het beeld geschetst van de grote diversiteit van werkzaamheden in de haven: lossen en overslag van producten, binnenvaart, de raffinaderijen en scheepswerven.
