Medellín, Colombia, has one and only one tram route, and today we will walk it from end to end. We will begin the Ayacucho Tranvía route at its western end, at San Antonio station, and continue to its eastern end at Oriente station. We will pass through the normally busy La Candelaria neighborhood (historic downtown district), although today it is quieter than normal because it is a holiday. We will then continue to Ayacucho Street where we will take a quick detour to film a scenic park called Plazuela San Ignacio, which houses some iconic Spanish colonial architecture. We will climb east through the hills of the Buenos Aires district where we will see sweeping mountain vistas to the left. To the right we will begin to be immersed in graffiti murals, which continue until the very end of the line. Many of the murals, once fresh and untouched, have over time become rough around the edges, due to peeling, fading and tagging. They are more like modern-day urban ruins, which add to their charm. Others however are towering wonders still in their full glory. We will reach Oriente station at the eastern end of the tram line in the Alejandro Echavarría neighborhood, and then head back the way we came. We may even chance upon a huge iguana. All the while, we will be sharing the space with Medellín's modern and scenic trams moving in both directions. We will pass nine tram stations in total. Two also contain cable car stations, carrying passengers high into the mountains (Miraflores and Oriente) and one also doubles as a Metro station (San Antonio- Medellín's only Metro transfer station).
