THE JOURNEY OF THE IDUS KNIGHT: EPISODE XIII
Zidus stood within Crumbling Farum Azula with another obstacle standing before him.
The Godskin Duo waited deeper within the ruins. Reaching them, however, proved embarrassing enough on its own. Banished Knights repeatedly stopped Zidus on his approach. He ran past them, acknowledging there was nothing to prove here. Inside, the Godskin Duo awaited. Zidus summoned Recusant Bernahl to his side and challenged the pair. Their first attempt ended in failure. The second did not. The crumbling ruins offered little mercy. Zidus continued deeper, only to find himself unexpectedly thrown from the edge and into the storm surrounding the ancient city. Grace returned him once again, and Zidus retraced his steps. Eventually, another familiar guardian stood before him. A Draconic Tree Sentinel. Zidus encountered one of these warriors before the gates of Leyndell. That victory required struggle and adaptation. This time was different. The Sentinel fell on Zidus's first attempt. Perhaps he had finally become the warrior his journey demanded.
Then he met Gurranq. The confidence earned outside the arena disappeared immediately. Zidus was overwhelmed. He returned to strengthen his weapons and prepared himself for another attempt. It changed little. Again and again, Gurranq denied him. Zidus changed his approach with each return. Different tactics. Different positioning. Different attempts to understand an opponent whose speed and power seemed to answer everything Zidus tried.
Nothing worked. Grace continued returning him to the fight, but for perhaps the first time, returning immediately no longer seemed like the answer. He spent much of his journey treating defeat as an invitation to try again. Margit, Rennala, Morgott, and even a fire giant all fell. Dragons fell. Even the guardians of the Erdtree eventually fell. Gurranqdid not. Not yet. Zidus finally acknowledged he needed to step away. There were still places within the Lands Between he had not explored where he could earn strength. Perhaps, even, lessons he had not learned.
This time, determination alone would not be enough.
