1958: On the Never-Never: Buying on Hire Purchase | Eye to Eye | BBC Archive

Six million people buy something or other on hire purchase every year. How does H.P. work? What are the snags? How does the shopkeeper check up on his customers, and what happens if they don't keep up the payments? This programme looks at the instalment world and has a look under the counter as well. Introduced by Morris West. NB: This documentary is typical of 1950s documentary making, likely relying on heavily planned sequences to demonstrate the point the filmmaker was trying to convey. Clip taken from Eye to Eye: Never Never, originally broadcast on BBC Television, 21 March, 1958.
