Linda takes up another of the whys: why do we interview, and ask questions primarily about what happened in your meditation? She begins by noticing how rare it is to talk about meditation experience at all, since a common piece of advice in meditation communities is not to, mostly to avoid comparison.
Linda is honest that comparison can happen in Reflective Meditation too. She has certainly heard someone describe a meditation and thought, I want what she's having. But she and Nelly have found that learning how similarly and how differently our body-minds work is valuable, and that not turning someone else's experience into a standard for our own is a skill that can develop.
She describes the particular kind of conversation they're practicing. One person talks about what happened, and another listens with interest and kindness, with the Dharma as an anchor. There's no diagnosing, interpreting, or reassuring, and no right answer behind the questions. Linda also talks about validating experiences like sleepiness, noticing the labels we give our experience, and getting to know the territory instead of putting experience on a map.
These conversations have become the glue of the Sangha, helping us see what we can't see on our own. Join Linda for this warm, practical talk.
