Crete 2026 | Old Hersonissos

A week in Crete 19th to 26th September 2026, staying at the Bella Vista Hotel in Old Hersonissos (highly recommend - thank you for your hospitality Elli). In our amazing little soft-top Fiat 500 we visited the Palace of Knossos (go late afternoon to avoid the crowds), Plaka, Spinalonga, Kasteli (traditional Cretan Village), Elounda (hadn’t been since 1994) and beaches at Amoudara (near Heraklion) and the fabulous Analipsi (near Hersonissos). In Old Hersonissos our favourite tavernas/bars were MD Cozy Corner (great lunch with amazing Greek wine and gin - thank you Pericles and Chrissa) and Harakas (lunch and dinner) and we also had a great experience in Lato, Zachos and The Village Inn. Oh and don’t believe all the negative stuff out there about Ta Petrina, we had a fab dinner there and the staff were lovely.
