Welcome to a spectacular new walking tour here at @MilesforyouGrandma! Today we are getting ready for a journey through time, from Victorian literary mystery to the contemporary bustle of Central London. Our route kicks off with vibrant energy in the iconic Baker Street area, immediately immersing us in the world of detectives as we pass the famous facade of
The Sherlock Holmes Museum, the busy underground station, and the imposing statue of the legendary character. Shortly after, the walk treats us to moments of true architectural wonder: we will discover the stone-carved Charles Dickens relief and admire incredibly majestic spaces, such as St Marylebone Parish Church and the stunning Gothic-style St James, Spanish Place, with its beautiful and detailed altar.
As we walk through intersections like Weymouth Street and Manchester Street, the excitement shifts to enjoying the refined lifestyle of Marylebone. It's captivating to stroll past elegant boutiques like Rixo and Aesop, stumble upon classic red telephone boxes, and watch people relaxing in street cafes next to Lime rental bikes. Towards the end, our route dives into the effervescence of Fitzrovia and the West End. We will pass through Cavendish Square near the large John Lewis store, where we'll find the curious and charming bronze sculpture "The Friendship Bench".
The atmosphere turns festive as we walk past iconic, character-filled pubs and taverns, such as Mr Fogg's The Botanical Tavern (with its spectacular floral exterior decoration), The Newman Arms, and The Jack Horner. Finally, we will culminate with a thrilling contrast upon reaching the busy Tottenham Court Road area, dominated by the towering Centre Point skyscraper and modern attractions like the Museum of Illusions. I hope you enjoyed every step of this tour full of history and urban charm; thanks for walking with me!
