Many people assume a remake only has to copy the plot, characters, and emotional beats of the original to work. Ek Din, Aamir Khan Productions’ Hindi adaptation of the 2016 Thai film One Day, had all of that in front of it. It starred Aamir’s son Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi. So what happens when a remake takes just a few key scenes out? In this video, we look at what the Thai original does in its pivotal moments, how Ek Din handles them differently, and whether a handful of missing scenes can change what a story is really about. This is also a bigger question for a production house that has long called itself story-centric, and has made remakes like Ghajini, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander and Sitaare Zameen Par work before. So let’s find out where Ek Din went wrong, and whether it ever understood what made One Day worth remaking.
