Hours ago, the cruel Zagros sky frowned and the heavy shadow of cold settled on the mountain's body. In this commotion, Ali and Bardia, with all their might, dragged water skins up the winding mountain path to inject a drop of life into the heart of the cave hut. The cold penetrated to the marrow of their bones, but Farzaneh, with her skillful hands, started the samovar, and the smell of freshly brewed tea drove away the fatigue of the journey from everyone's bodies. A moment later, Farzaneh and Bardia set to work and, with a mixture of water and plaster, sealed the cracks and openings in the cave wall one by one, so that their little fortress would become impenetrable against the howling of the polar winds. But the peace of the hut did not last long; the air became darker and more raucous by the minute, and the roar of thunder roared in the deep valleys of the Zagros. It was as if the sky was about to unleash all its wrath on the mountains, and a fierce storm was on its way there. Seconds were crucial; without a moment’s hesitation, Farzaneh and Bardia rushed to the heart of the valley and the mountains. They had to think about their fuel for the night before the torrential rain began. Amidst the wind and rain, they collected some dry firewood and mountain logs to be prepared for rainy conditions and nightlife.
