This video covers Aug 25-26, where we start Aug 25 with walking a trail in Refugio Los Volcanes, from dawn to lunch and check-out. We heard a few birds without seeing them, then saw lots of other birds, but as usual in dense forest: not so many on photo. I managed to get shots of Blue-crowned Trogon, Yungas Manakin and Slaty Gnateater, along with some magnificent nature-views. Back at the lodge we got lunch while doing the birdlist, then packed our bags in the lodge's jeep and started our trek back up to where the bus was parked. By then it was midday and hot, so we took a pause half-way, eating a snack and drinking water. Not many birds around at that time of the day, only photo is of a Sclater's Tyrannulet. Midday is very good for butterflies, though, so I was a very happy camper! After that the jeep came back and drove us the rest of the way. Then our drive towards Samaipata began, we made a few stops. Only one to result in a photo-frenzy was at a flowering tree by the road, with Mitred Parakeets. That was a real upgrade, compared with the distant views of that species we got yesterday (Part 3). Later, after check-in at our hostel in Samaipata, and dinner, my partner and I had a great time photographing the moths around the building ;-) Aug 26: The next morning we had an early morning and check-out, then drove along Samaipata Pipeline Rd, trying to see Giant Antshrike. We only heard them, though. It was a good birding site and I got some low quality photos of Variable Antshrike, Moss-backed Sparrow, White-bellied Hummingbird, Chestnut-backed Antshrike, Planalto Hermit, Streak-throated Bush Tyrant and Roadside Hawk. At nine we left Samaipata and started the long, dusty and tiresome transport towards Perereta and Red-fronted Macaw Lodge (where we arrived late, so it won't show up until in Part 5). We made quite a few birding stops along the way, and could add White-bellied Tyrannulet, Cream-backed Woodpecker, Bolivian Earthcreeper, Narrow-billed Woodcreeper, Chaco Puffbird, Plush-crested Jay, Blue-and-yellow Tanager, Grey-crested Finch, Golden-olive Woodpecker, Golden-billed Saltator, Blue-crowned Parakeet, Andean Condor, Bolivian Blackbird, Cliff Flycatcher and Collared Plover. The last one was seen while fording Rio Misque at 5:43 PM, the final hurdle before check-in. Not many minutes of daylight left! 00:00 intro for Aug 25, incl itinerary map 00:17 Morning birding along a Los Volcanes trail 02:10 Lunch, then walking the trail back to the bus.
