Why does a book quoted by name in the New Testament sit outside almost every Bible printed today? The Book of Enoch was read, copied, and defended as scripture by early Christians — then it vanished from the Western canon for over a thousand years.
This video traces that documented history. Written in five sections between the 3rd century BCE and 1st century CE, Enoch expands a four-verse mystery in Genesis into a full narrative of fallen angels, giant offspring called the Nephilim, and forbidden knowledge blamed for corrupting early humanity. Jude quotes it directly. Tertullian defended it in writing around 200 CE. Fragments of at least ten ancient copies later surfaced among the Dead Sea Scrolls at Qumran.
This isn't suppression — it's ancient mysteries revealed through manuscript evidence, not conspiracy. As Jewish authorities and later theologians like Augustine and Jerome settled scripture's boundaries, Enoch fell outside them and stopped being copied in the West. Ethiopia's church, independent of that debate, never removed this forbidden history from its 81-book canon.
Key discoveries covered:
Jude quotes Enoch by name (Jude 1:14–15)
Dead Sea Scroll fragments confirm 10+ ancient copies at Qumran
Tertullian defended the book's legitimacy around 200 CE
Ethiopia's Tewahedo Church still holds it as scripture today
This is a rare case of lost civilization discovered evidence — the Dead Sea Scrolls — independently confirming an ancient text's authenticity.
