Shaun Murphy, champion back in 2005, had knocked out defending champion Zhao Xintong 13-10 in the quarterfinals and John Higgins 17-15 in the semis. Wu Yize, 22, came through Hossein Vafaei, four-time champion Mark Selby and Jak Jones, then survived a match ball against Mark Allen at 16-15 down when Allen missed a black.
