Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia | Walk in 4K | Lower & Upper Lakes, Veiki Slap, Boat Crossing

I'd seen photos of Plitvice Lakes years ago, but it wasn't until 2024 that I discovered Disclosure's Cercle set at Plitvice Lakes National Park. Seeing two guys from Reigate, just up the road from my hometown of Brighton, performing in such an incredible location was surreal. From that moment, visiting Plitvice shot straight to the top of my travel list. As I started researching Croatia, I quickly realised there was so much more to the country than just the lakes. Beautiful coastline, iconic islands, historic cities and a fascinating blend of Mediterranean charm, Central European architecture and Balkan heritage. It soon became clear this was somewhere worth exploring properly. We flew into Zadar and picked up our hire car, although the start of the trip was slightly chaotic. Europcar initially gave us a Ford Tourneo Courier Active, which felt more like a rattly box on wheels than the category we'd booked. After about twenty minutes we turned around and asked if they had anything else. They swapped it for an Opel Grandland, which was definitely an improvement, although it had clearly seen better days. That evening we stayed at Guesthouse Bor, just outside the national park. Our host was incredibly friendly, gave us plenty of advice about the best route through the park and helped us plan an early start before the crowds arrived. The following morning we somehow managed to drive past the entrance a couple of times because the mobile signal was so poor, but once inside it was absolutely worth it. We spent around three to four hours completing Route C, and honestly, I'll let the video speak for itself. Plitvice Lakes is one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited. During the boat crossing we met a lovely Australian couple, Ray and Paul, who were also making their way through Europe before driving down to Split later that day. Unfortunately we never bumped into them again, but conversations like that are one of my favourite parts of travelling. The journey wasn't quite over either. While driving towards Split, Europcar texted asking if we could return the Opel. We did, and this time they handed us a Ford Kuga, which was by far the best of the three cars we'd had. A rather amusing start to what turned out to be an unforgettable trip.
