I purchased this from England as a non-runner and spent 3/4 year setting it right. This engine is a simple non-condensing type. LP bore is 2.030, HP bore is 1.431, and stroke for both is 1.75 inches. It reverses and is self starting some times. This is basically a one cylinder engine until it turns over. The metal portion is 20 1/2 lbs. It is 25 pounds on the teak display base with hardwood base block and 5" bronze display boat prop.
This runs equally well on both steam and air starting at 10 psi. It had a spaghetti of drain cocks which were a nuisance and removed. Just cracking the throttle to bring cylinders up to temp is a simple warm-up to start. The fasteners all appear to be hand machined and heads are buffed. The cyl rings are non-metallic w/ bronze pistons. It has a 90 deg steel crank.
I am sure that this is a custom 1 off engine built by a very knowledgeable machinist/boat enthusiast. I also believe that it was previously used for steaming a 1-2 person pond boat. Just a 6" to 8" boiler will run this at a nice speed. It has lots of power and is light on steam and water. The crank has a slight lateral movement each rev which makes the flywheel appear wobbly.
As can be seen, this is a very elegantly detailed form steam engine. Detailed slides show at end.
