AI Pokémon games seem to be EVERYWHERE now. I talked to a few creators who have been in the Rom Hacking scene for many, many years — creating games, sharing discoveries, writing libraries and updating resources and the community’s overall feeling is of fear. Nemo662, creator of the Seaglass series, told me that AI has been “turning them away from big parts of the community.” There is indeed a real risk that Large Language Models and vibe-coding can lead us to a future where everyone can make a Pokemon Rom Hack in a second, but also to an oversaturation of less creative, poorly optimized games, which snowballs into poor documentation and a dramatic crash in what keeps rom hacking alive: sharing of knowledge. Today, modding is open and collaborative, but in the future it can become messy, chaotic and push away young developers who would end up falling in love with game design. It can be easier than ever to make a game, but rom hacking is fast tracked to becoming inaccessible. 🖊 References and extra material:    • Gen1 Recomp - What it IS and...      • TeClas recompilando Pokémon   🐦 Follow my other channels!    / @cecililyplays   https://bsky.app/profile/cecilily.bsk...   / cecililytweets     / cecililystreams   📧 cecililycontact@gmail.com 📚Chapters: 00:00 - AI Pokémon Games look weird 03:45 - Everything popping up at the same time 07:28 - Emerald Decomp and Open Source 15:27 - ROM Hacking is about learning 🎵 In this video, you listened to Mario Kart World, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Pokémon ORAS, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver and ‪@PurrpleCat‬.
