And what does the US crossing $40 trillion in national debt mean for the global economy? In this episode of UPSC Current Affairs, we decode two major developments shaping the global economic and geopolitical landscape. The Netherlands has moved around 86 tonnes of gold from the United States and Canada to London, with its central bank, De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), citing increasing geopolitical unrest, crisis preparedness and the need to make its gold reserves more tradable and accessible. Following the move, London's share of Dutch gold reserves increased from 18.1% to 32.1%, while the shares held in New York and Ottawa fell to 18.5% each. At the same time, the US national debt has crossed the historic $40 trillion mark, raising questions about fiscal sustainability, rising interest costs, Treasury yields, inflation risks and the long-term position of the US dollar in the global financial system. So, is Europe becoming wary of the United States? Is this connected to Trump's policies, geopolitical tensions and the freezing of foreign assets? Is the world moving toward de-dollarisation? And why are central banks increasingly interested in gold as a reserve asset? The key point is that the Dutch move does not mean the Netherlands has abandoned US-held gold or accused Washington of planning to seize it. DNB says the relocation was primarily about diversification, tradability and crisis preparedness. At the same time, the $40 trillion debt milestone adds another layer to the debate over the sustainability of US fiscal policy and the future of the dollar-centric global financial system. Recent analysis has also highlighted growing investor and central-bank interest in alternatives such as gold amid concerns around US debt and Treasury markets. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Telegram channel for Daily Updates: https://t.me/worldaffairsbyunacademy #UPSC #UPSC2027 #UPSCCurrentAffairs #CurrentAffairs #UPSCPrelims #UPSCMains #IAS #CivilServices #USNationalDebt #USDebt #40TrillionDebt #Netherlands #GoldReserves #Gold #CentralBanks #DeDollarisation #USDollar #Dollar #GlobalEconomy #WorldEconomy #InternationalRelations #Geopolitics #DonaldTrump #Europe #EuropeanUnion #EconomicCrisis #GlobalFinancialSystem #Economy #IndianEconomy #UPSCPreparation #IASPreparation #CurrentAffairs2026 #upsc2027 netherlands moves gold from us to london, why netherlands moved gold to london, netherlands 86 tonnes gold reserves explained, why is europe moving gold out of the us, europe moving gold reserves from america, netherlands gold reserves us london, why countries are moving gold reserves, europe gold reserves and us relations, netherlands gold move trump explained, why london is important for gold reserves, us national debt crosses 40 trillion, why us national debt reached 40 trillion, 40 trillion us debt explained, us debt crisis explained, how us debt affects global economy, how us national debt affects dollar, us debt and de-dollarisation explained, gold and us dollar relationship explained, why central banks are buying gold, central banks gold reserves 2026, de-dollarisation and gold reserves, gold reserves and global economy, us debt gold and de-dollarisation, europe and us economic relations, trump europe relations economy, us dollar reserve currency explained, future of us dollar as reserve currency, global shift away from us dollar, why countries are increasing gold reserves, us national debt and global financial stability
