19edo Suite for MIDI Piano, excerpts (Bach & Satie) - Eco Errázuriz Henao

The pieces in this collection utilize microtonal scales derived from a 19 tone equal temperament tuning system. As my first foray into microtonality I chose to "tame" the system by taking easily recognizable pieces from the western canon as an origin and taking off to engage with the tuning's harmonic and melodic capabilities. These are very much pastiche works and not original, authentic pieces in most senses. These first two pieces are based on Bach's infamous prelude in C, and Satie's Gnossiene collection. The videos accompanying them were made in the nick of time for my exams by my friend Paula Vélez. I thank them enormously for that. Also part of the planned suite are a Bartokian "Mikrokosmic", an intricate and prickly étude mimicking Scriabin, and a "kleine stucke" à la Schoenberg. All pieces are meant to be playable with human hands but that requires complex technical and technological logistics.
