In December 1944, a market town in the Belgian Ardennes became the place where the last German offensive of the war had to pass. Bastogne was not a fortress and not a prize — it was a crossroads. Whoever held it held the way west. This is the complete history of the siege, told the way the men inside it lived it: one day at a time. From the quiet sector nobody was watching, through the night the trucks drove east past everyone driving west, to the morning the ring closed, the note under the white flag, the sky that finally opened, Christmas in the perimeter, and the corridor one road wide — which was not the end of it. Narrated slowly and quietly, for sleep. Sources. Primary and public-domain throughout: Hugh M. Cole, The Ardennes: Battle of the Bulge (U.S. Army Center of Military History); Cole, The Lorraine Campaign; Charles B. MacDonald, The Siegfried Line Campaign; the after-action records of the units engaged. Where sources disagree — on the size of the garrison, on the casualty counts, on who wrote the surrender note — the video says so rather than choosing the convenient number. 0:00 Cold open 2:18 Chapter One — Seven Roads 11:14 Chapter Two — The Schedule Written by the Weather 20:34 Chapter Three — The Reserve Held for Another Day 29:03 Chapter Four — The Town They Drove Toward 38:20 Chapter Five — The Day Bought on the Roads (19 December) 47:37 Chapter Six — The Hand Not Yet Closed (20 December) 56:27 Chapter Seven — The Circle in the Snow (21 December) 1:05:34 Chapter Eight — One Word (22 December) 1:14:27 Chapter Nine — The Sky Opened (23 December) 1:23:14 Chapter Ten — The Quietest Night (24 December) 1:32:03 Chapter Eleven — Christmas in the Perimeter (25 December) 1:40:46 Chapter Twelve — A Corridor One Road Wide (26 December) 1:50:50 Chapter Thirteen — What the Corridor Did Not Finish 1:59:37 Chapter Fourteen — The Arithmetic of a Crossroads 2:07:14 Chapter Fifteen — The Snow Over the Field
