Can Nigeria become an industrial manufacturing powerhouse if major industries are dominated by only a few large companies? In this video, Dr. Caesar examines the dangers of monopoly and limited competition in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector. While major investments such as the Dangote Refinery and Dangote Cement have expanded domestic industrial capacity, Nigeria also needs policies that enable many more entrepreneurs and manufacturers to enter strategic industries. From modular petroleum refineries and urea production to manufacturing, energy and petrochemicals, greater competition could broaden investment, encourage innovation and create more opportunities for Nigerian businesses. The difference between Russia, China and Japan is that Russia is just a 2.6 trillion economy but on monopoly. But Japan is about $5 trillion and China around $20 trillion encourages competition. It is competition with many electric vehicle manufacturing companies in China that has allowed BYD of China to emerge and be able to compete with leading global brands like Tesla. Nigeria’s challenge is therefore not simply attracting another industrial giant. The deeper question is how government can create an enabling environment where small, medium and large manufacturers can compete, access affordable financing, scale production and create jobs. #Nigeria #Industrialization #Manufacturing #Dangote #Monopoly #Competition #NigeriaEconomy #dangoterefinery #dangote #byd #Africa #manufacturing #oilandgas
