The One Truth Band(s) were to tour the material developed for the Johnny McLaughlin Electric Guitarist and Electric Dreams albums. His Shakti collaborator, L.Shankar, was still with him here, and one could argue that Shankar's work in this electric context helped to lead him into later work with the likes of Talking Heads and Peter Gabriel. Stu Goldberg had been in the final 2 Mahavishnu Orchestras which preceded Shakti, and Tony Smith and Fernando Saunders had been recruited from the Jan Hammer Group to replace Woody Theus and T.M. Stevens, who'd done the first set of OTB shows in 78. Electric Dreams has always been one of my favorite albums from McLaughlin's vast output, so I've got a soft spot for any of the ROIO's that I've feature that material (some of which continued to be played during the shows with Jack Bruce, Billy Cobham, and Stu Goldberg from later in 1979). This particular Argentinian show is very cool, and unique, because it includes a single track of a jam between John and Egberto Gismonti, who had apparently shared the bill. Gismonti is, of course, a great player and composer who had a number of international releases on ECM through this time period, with even more coming out in his native Brazil on his own Carmo label. John would go on to play Gismonti's Frevo in the Trio with Al Dimeola and Paco DeLucia, and Loro in his Translators band from the early 80's. (...)Finally, this is going up here a few days before John travels to the USA and appears at this year's Crossroads Festival in Texas. I hope all of those reading this may have similar levels of energy and health if/when we get to where he now is (84 years old)." Thanks to agalli, mr_mags, goody,defe05 & jswetch!!!
