While the world's best Ocean Racing Surfski male and female paddlers competed for World Championship titles in senior, U23, junior and masters age groups, hundreds of other paddlers enjoyed the superb surfski conditions off the Durban coastline in a week-long series of events. History was made in Durban with the world's largest number of race participants recorded. The women's race led with a fifteen minute head start at 9am, followed by the men's race. Race director, Colin Simpkins highlighted that the race attracted renowned international paddlers to Durban’s shores. The 34km race ended at Westbrook Beach, Tongaat on the North Coast. An emotional Kira Bester from South Africa won the women's race.
