Tata Motors chairman N Chandrasekaran said that the company is eyeing “near-zero” debt in the next three years as it looks to significantly deleverage its business, reduce expenses and put a leash on noncore investments.
Addressing the shareholders at the 75th annual general meeting over a video conference, Chandrasekaran said, “We have set a target that TML (Tata Motors) group will significantly bring down the debt and come to near-zero debt levels in the next three years.” He said the overall investments of the group have reduced by 50% during this fiscal year and “we will continue to manage this tightly going forward.”
The company had a net automotive debt of ₹61,900 crore at the end of June 2020, of which almost ₹₹20,000 crore was added during the first quarter itself. The net debt stood at ₹42,300 crore at the end of the FY20, according to a company release.
