Exit Zero Jazz Festival, Cape May, NJ- Carney's Other Room The Jones Law Blues" was composed by Bennie Moten and William "Count" Basie and recorded on October 23, 1929 by Bennie Moten's Kansas City Orchestra. The song refers to the Jones Act which was passed by Congress in 1929 and strengthened federal penalties for bootlegging, trying to enforce prohibition, which was created in 1920 by the 18th Amendment.
