A LESSON IN EMPATHY… WHILE WASHING THE DISHES ❤️

While I’m washing the dishes, I keep thinking about something that happened today with my daughters. 🍽️ My girls often play with a little girl who lives nearby. Our houses are close, and there’s an area at the back where they can easily go in and out of each other’s houses while they’re playing. Everything seemed completely normal… until my two older children told me that this little girl had been saying swear words and had started teaching them to my youngest daughter too. 🥴🫣 When I heard that, I honestly felt really upset. I want my girls to grow up peacefully, especially while they’re still young, learning to respect other people and to treat each other kindly. Of course, we’re all human. Sometimes a child might say “stupid” or something else that isn’t very nice. These things can happen between children. But there’s a difference between hearing a word once in a while and having another child come into my home, teach my daughter swear words, and even tell her, “Go and say this to your sister.” That, honestly, I didn’t like at all. 😭 And while I was washing the dishes, I kept thinking that I needed to speak to her mum about it. So I messaged her and explained what had happened. And you know what I really appreciated? She didn’t become defensive. She asked me exactly which words her daughter had said, and she told me she would speak to her and make sure it didn’t happen again. And that’s when I started thinking about how important it is for mums to work together. Because at the end of the day, we’re both mothers. I’m trying to raise my girls in the way I believe is right, and she’s doing the same with her daughter. Nobody is perfect. We all have good sides and not-so-good sides, and children are going to make mistakes too. But when you have someone on the other side who listens, understands and wants to cooperate instead of turning everything into an argument… it makes such a difference. Even when the children play in the playroom, for example, we both agree on one thing: when they’re finished, they have to tidy everything up. 😂 They might seem like small things, but these little agreements are exactly what help relationships between people work. And today, while I was washing the dishes, I thought… Maybe the world would be a little better if we all spent less time trying to prove that we’re right and a little more time trying to understand each other. Because we can have different personalities, different opinions and different ways of raising our children.
