Atari's first arcade machine with a microprocessor, a Signetics 2650. It would have cost far too much to store thousands of questions using ROM at the time, so this game stored them on an 8-track tape. The 4 programs of the 8-track deck allows for the 4 categories - the "category change" button on the control panel is actually the 8-track's program select. The other advantage using tape offered was "randomization" of the questions, as whenever a question was completed, the game would grab whichever question it next saw roll across the tape head. Originally shipped with a 1000 question tape in 1976, this one has the later 2000 question tape upgrade installed (1977). Note the non-licensed Laurel & Hardy and Mickey Mouse likenesses in the artwork. It was different world back then. I uploaded this years ago and left it private as it isn't all that exciting, but with renewed interest in the game as being the progenitor of the "arcade font", this might be more interesting to people in this age as this is not a game that is often seen, much less in operating condition. I also have a [non-working at the moment] 1976 Ramtek Trivia, another tape-based quiz arcade game which utilizes the exact same technology. I would assume Atari had the idea first? Any insight out there?
