Watch Argus, the AI agent for mechanical engineers, run a complete brake disc transient thermal analysis in Ansys Mechanical, from a written brief through Ansys Discovery and Workbench to a verified result and a PDF report. Argus links the Discovery geometry into a Workbench transient thermal system, starts Ansys Mechanical, and scopes the model to the disc alone. It builds named selections for the friction faces, bore and exposed surfaces, meshes with quadratic tets refined on the drilled holes (321,721 nodes), applies a ramped heat flux for a 3 s stop from 100 km/h followed by 57 s of cooling, and solves. Along the way it catches a 2× error in the brief: the 12.82 MW/m² heat flux was already the peak, not the average, and using it would have doubled the energy into the disc. Argus works out the correct 6.41 MW/m², shows the math, and verifies that 270,062 J goes in, matching the target. Result: a peak disc temperature of 603.7 °C at 2.24 s, friction faces at 507–565 °C at the end of the stop, and about 210 °C after 60 s, all written up in a PDF report with the assumptions and next steps. ⏱️ Chapters 0:00 Intro 0:10 The brief: a single stop from 100 km/h 0:20 Discovery geometry into Mechanical 0:30 Meshing and checking the heat flux 0:40 Temperature history: the 604 °C peak 0:50 Friction-face results at 3 s 1:00 Verifying results and handing back 1:12 The PDF report 1:25 Thanks for watching 🔗 Resources Full write-up: https://www.cosmon.com/blogs/ansys-me...
