Ustad Shamim Ahmed & Pandit Nayan Ghosh - 1987 - Hemant

This is a concert from 1987 in Mumbai. Shamim-ji was introduced to Hindustani classical music by his father, Ustad Ghulam Rasool Khan, of the Agra Gharana, and by his grand uncle Ustad Faiyaz Khan. As a young boy, an illness caused him to have issues with his vocal chords and so he switched from vocal to sitar. After hearing Pandit Ravi Shankar perform, he became one of his earliest disciples. Pandit Nayan Ghosh learned tabla and vocal from his father, Padmabhushan Pandit Nikhil Ghosh and then took up the sitar. He is equally proficient in both sitar and tabla. He has accompanied many sitarists, including Ustad Shahid Parvez, Pt. Buddhaditya Mukherjee, Pt. Kartick Kumar, and Pt. Shamim Ahmed.
