Ukraine's Sea Drone Met a Russian Robot Boat Off Odesa — First USV Battle

A Ukrainian Magura V5 naval drone intercepted and destroyed a Russian unmanned surface vessel off the coast of Odesa on September 12, 2023, marking the first battle in history between two uncrewed boats. This episode reconstructs the engagement minute by minute: a low-light camera feed a meter above the waterline, a contact closing bow-on that never turns away, and the control-link latency that decided which operator committed first. It explains why every Ukrainian sea-drone doctrine now has to change, what the arrival of Russia's own USVs means for the economics of hunting the shadow fleet, and why naval planners in a dozen countries are reading a two-paragraph Ukrainian Navy statement with intense attention.
