Join me as we explore the historic Ivanhoe Mine workings on Taukani Hill in the Karangahake Gorge. With the Windows Walk closed, we bushwhacked our way up through challenging terrain and gorse to access these remarkable old workings. Inside, we discovered a network of tunnels following gold-bearing quartz veins, including tight squeezes through partially collapsed sections and interesting artifacts like old ventilation pipes and rail track marks. The various levels and stopes demonstrate how the miners followed the promising quartz veins through the mountain, with evidence of their work still visible in the rock faces today. ⚠️ WARNING: Abandoned mines are extremely dangerous environments with risks including unstable ground, sudden drops, loose rocks, and flooding. This video is not an endorsement of any activities. Many of these areas are not officially accessible and entering them could result in serious injury or death. 🏔️ Special thanks to ‪@StevenMinex‬ for joining me on this adventure and helping navigate the challenging terrain! 📷 Check out my photos too:   / urbex.kiwi
