Kidney transplant patients at the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) are the first in Canada to access game-changing transplant technology: the XVIVO Kidney Assist. The device provides continuous oxygenation to help keep donated kidneys as healthy as possible during the time they are outside of the body - enhancing preservation of the organs and improving outcomes for recipients. Since Dr. Max Levine and his kidney transplant team started using it in late 2025, nearly 40 patients have benefited from this technology, including veterinarian David Cliplef.
