I toggle the effect on and off throughout missions and cutscenes, compare Michael, Franklin, Trevor and the rest of Los Santos, and discover that more detail does not always mean a better-looking character. Some scenes look impressively realistic, while others leave everyone looking older, shinier or strangely different between shots. Meanwhile, input lag, lower frame rates, unfamiliar Enhanced-version behaviour and my own rusty execution turn familiar strategies into a struggle. I experiment with cinematic presets, increase the processing until I reach one frame per second, and debate whether the extra realism is worth changing GTA V’s original art style.
