Mark Easton started Buccos Roofing in Pittsburgh in 2012 with $1,500. A hail storm handed him 60 houses in one neighborhood in his first year, and then he had to learn what to do when the storms stopped. Today Buccos runs roofing, siding, soffit, fascia, gutters and commercial work, and just signed its second franchisee.
In this episode Mark walks through what it actually took to get here.
Why he moved away from insurance work to roughly 98% retail. How he built 12 years of loyalty with the same subcontractors by taking the loss himself when a bid came in wrong. The two years his team spent putting every job on paper before they could sell a franchise, and why "we just have good people who know what to do" is not a system.
He also gets into the part most roofers avoid. Roofing is not a recurring business by default. You win a job, you finish a job, and then the relationship ends. Mark is building toward subscription maintenance on flat roofs because he noticed most failures trace back to drains nobody cleans.
