High Speed Trains On The Connecticut Shoreline

Spend a morning on the platform at Guilford, Connecticut where Amtrak Acelas and Amtrak Northeast Regional trains speed through on 2.1 miles of (almost) tangent track. Amtrak is running both the new Avelia trainsets and the legacy trainsets. But soon the original Acela equipment will be history so see them while you can. And starting next year the new Airo trainsets will begin replacing the current Northeast Regional equipment. Connecticut's Shore Line East commuter trains are the only trains that stop at Guilford. That service is now all diesel as the electric M8 trainsets have been sidelined to save the $8.8 million SLE pays to Amtrak for the electricity and access to the electric infrastructure.
