Ayanda Mokoena is a fourth-year BSc Nuclear Medicine Technology student at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). After initially enrolling in a BCom in Transport and Logistics Management at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), Ayanda recognised that commerce was not his calling and pivoted toward specialised healthcare after discovering nuclear medicine and completing hands-on clinical job shadowing. In this student edition of the Sdeke Podcast, Ayanda shares his journey of transitioning between two major South African universities, adapting to an intimate cohort of just eight students, and navigating CPUT's two-week clinical rotation model across academic hospitals. He breaks down the multifaceted skills required of a nuclear technologist—from radiopharmacy lab work and phlebotomy to machine quality control and software image reconstruction.
