In this video, I walk through Berlin and explore the story behind David Bowie’s legendary Berlin years, from Hansa Studios and the Berlin Wall to the creation of Low and “Heroes”. Standing outside Hansa Studios, it’s fascinating to imagine Bowie recording just a stone’s throw from the Berlin Wall. This was the period when Bowie was stripping everything back, experimenting with sound, and rebuilding himself creatively. The more I explore these streets, the more I understand why Berlin mattered so much to Bowie. It wasn’t simply somewhere he lived — it became part of the music.
