Schildmaid MX ~ Switch ~ 2025 ~ 1CC

Schildmaid MX is a recent indie shmup that boasts some interesting scoring mechanics. Triggering the shield allows the player to absorb bullets that can get their score value multiplied through chaining. Destroying enemies during the shield activation lets players restart the shield timer so chaining shields is possible and actually key to big puntos. Although I only scratched the surface of it, scoring seems pretty fun once the player learns the enemy waves. And that’s one of the issues in my opinion : while the game looks great, and the audio is nice, especially with the Japanese voice, I failed to differentiate levels. I found very little differences in levels and I think it’s a missed opportunity for this title : having a visual theme for each level would really make it more attractive. But overall a nice shmup with a fun scoring mechanic that stands out, which is not that common these days !
