Hace setenta y cuatro mil años, un volcán del norte de Sumatra expulsó 2.800 kilómetros cúbicos de roca en menos de un día. La ceniza cubrió la India con una capa de 15 centímetros y llegó hasta África oriental. El cielo del planeta se apagó durante seis años. Cuando el polvo por fin se posó, de la especie Homo sapiens quedaba un puñado: quizá 3.000 individuos fértiles, quizá 10.000.
Todos los que vivimos hoy descendemos de ese puñado.
Este documental recorre las tres pruebas físicas que reconstruyen aquella noche: la roca de la caldera, el hielo de los polos y el ADN que llevamos dentro. Tres archivos independientes que apuntan a la misma fecha.
