A unforgettable drive across the mountains between Haukeli and Røldal. This route takes us away from the standard E134 tunnels and up onto the historic, old mountain road, a hidden gem surrounded by dramatic, untouched nature. The journey begins at a beautiful, relaxing pace as the road winds through the mighty high-mountain landscape. All you hear is the soothing sound of the tires against the tarmac, the gentle trickle of meltwater, and the crisp mountain air. It is pure ASMR for the soul. Around every bend, postcard-perfect vistas reveal crystal-clear lakes, steep slopes, and majestic peaks towering in the distance. However, the Norwegian mountains play by their own rules, especially on the old routes high above sea level. The further up we go, the clearer it becomes that winter has not yet let go. The impressive walls of snow along the roadside gradually grow taller, until we suddenly find ourselves face-to-face with an impassable barrier. The snow has not melted yet, and the road is completely blocked. Nature put a definitive stop to our plans this time. With no way through, there is nothing left to do but turn the car around, carefully retrace our steps, and enjoy the same spectacular views all over again, just from a completely different perspective.
